Spark testers are classified by the type of test voltage applied to the product. Available currents include Alternating Current (AC) and Direct Current (DC). AC spark testers are of two types: Spark testers that operate at power main frequencies, generally 50 or 60 Hertz and “high Frequency” spark testers that operate at 3kHz. Clinton offers several types of spark testers and a wide range of electrodes, each designed for a particular product type. The Clinton PDC Pinhole Detection System for Tubing and Catheters performs an in-process test, applying a non-destructive electrical current at high voltage to the surface of the tubing. If minute pinholes or flaws exist, an arc will discharge through the fault site to a grounded mandrel or inner conductor within the tubing. The test equipment immediately detects this discharge and indicates a fault.
